Baltimore's Arena Players, Inc. lays claim to being the oldest continually performing and historically African-American community theatre. This has been accomplished over the years through the efforts of a dedicated group of members and a supportive city and state government. From its humble beginnings in 1953 by a small aspiring group of ambitious fledgling actors, the Arena Players, Inc. is now a Baltimore institution with a proud history of community service and outstanding dramatic achievements.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!

Arena Players, Inc. is a community theatre. We have one paid position at this time and all other positions are volunteers. We are hoping to remedy this in the future. We are preparing for the 58th season starting in September 2010. That means we are looking for ushers, actors, directors, and other creative people. If you are interested please advise by phone (410-728-6500) or email. One of the important considerations when you volunteer is that you are available at scheduled time. This is a commitment that you make to the Arena Players. We like fun people so just jump right on in and volunteer.

Subscriptions:

The 2010 - 2011 Season will also include 3 readers theatre  projects for new plays under consideration for the 2011-2012 season.  New season will be announced by  July 9, 2010.

Arena Players, Inc. runs a six play seasons; tickets for each show costs $15.00; however, anyone who wishes to purchase a subscription may do so at he following rate:

Single Subscription $75.00

Double Subscription $115.00

In 1974 the Arena Players' youth group was started. The purpose was to reach out to the youth in the community. The first youth production was the widely successful musical revue, "Bits of Broadway". "The Playshop" started in 1975, with fall and summer programs in music, drama, dance, mime and technical theatre. The focus of the youth program was to train young people between the ages of 13 and 18 years old in the performing arts. In the fall of 1975 the name was changed to the "Youtheatre".

In 1988, the "Little Peoples Theatre"was begun. This was a program in the performing arts for children between the early ages of 5 and 11 years old. Both programs have proven to be very successful , and both are currently running during the annual summer and fall seasons under the direction of Catherine Orange. Productions are presented at the end of the summer programs, before Christmas holiday, and during the annual celebration of Black History Month.

"Play Building" is the latest innovation in which the youngsters use their talents in the creation of original dramas and musical productions for each of the important holidays
